CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE CODE

NOTEThe Edinburg School Code of Conduct is available on request at the school office.

Students and parents should be aware that NY Education Law states that teachers and administration have the right and responsibility for the welfare and safety of students in attendance at school or school functions.  Self-discipline is necessary to insure learning.  We ask that you discuss with your children the importance of proper behavior and attitude based on respect for themselves and others.  As staff, our major goal regarding discipline is to accentuate the positive! 

THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY TO ALL STUDENTS AT OUR SCHOOL:

Cafeteria

á        Restaurant manners and voice level.

á        Walk single file in and out of the cafeteria

á        Keep hands, feet and food to oneself÷keep area clean.

á        Respect others.

á        Follow all instructions given by cafeteria aides.

á        No sharing of food for health reasons.

Gum Chewing, Candy, Lollipops, and Mints

To keep a clean learning environment, as a general rule, students are not permitted to chew gum while in school, on the playground, on buses, or on field trips.

Hall

á        Use quiet voices

á        Keep feet, hands, and objects to oneself

á        Walk at all times

Playground

á        Go directly outside when dismissed for playground

á        Respect the boundaries and off-limit areas

á        Keep hands, feet, and objects to oneself

á        Use and share equipment in a safe and fair manner

á        Follow instructions given by playground aides

á        Respect others

á        Do not play with hard baseballs

á        Do not bring expensive toys, which could be broken

PROHIBITED CONDUCT INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

a.       Fighting

b.      Threatening or intimidating others/sexual harassment

c.       Making unreasonable noise

d.      Theft

e.       Possession of tobacco or chemical substance

f.        Disrespect for others

g.       Use of foul language or gestures

h.       Throwing snow or harmful objects

i.         Disrespect for school rules

j.    Misuse or destruction of school property

k.   Possession of a weapon or dangerous object, which could be used as a weapon      

      (Policy 5312)

Those students who repeatedly disregard the rules of the school will initially be disciplined by the classroom teacher and/or aide and, if necessary, the school administration.  If the situation warrants, parents will be involved in resolving problems.  School personnel will determine consequences for inappropriate behavior.

Students who fail to meet the expected degree of responsibility and violate school rules may be subject to disciplinary action and more regulated supervision (Policy 5310). 

Students who are removed from band or chorus three times for discipline reasons will not be permitted to continue that activity.

Students who behave inappropriately during lunch and noontime recess periods will be sent to the ãtime outä room and denied the privilege of recess.  The student may receive in-school or out-of-school suspension after being assigned three times to the ãtime outä room in a two-week period because of behavior.

 

Students, who are suspended, either in or out of school, will not be permitted to participate in extracurricular activities during the period of suspension.
